To the Editor,
We read the publication on “New continuous barbed suture device with stratafix (SF) for the vaginal stump in laparoscopic hysterectomy” with a great interest. Yanazume et al. concluded that “SF suturing facilitates the vaginal stump closure in total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) without increasing the complications. SF allowed vaginal stump approximation and reduced the operative burden, especially in less experienced operators.” The use of SF might be helpful in reducing the time for suturing. However, there are still many considerations. First, the problem of wound breakage after SF is still possible and there is still a requirement for good wound care, complication surveillance, and management. The cost of the SF is interesting. There should be a proof that SF is cost-effective comparing to standard classical technique. In the previous report on knee surgery, SF can significantly reduce time of surgery and might imply for the cost-effectiveness.
